It is the policy of Carl Büttner GmbH & Co. KG, Carl Büttner Shipmanagement GmbH (hereafter called the company), to apply and promote the concepts of safety and environmental excellence in all areas of our business.

Our objectives are to:

• prevent human injury or loss of life
• maintain a healthy and safe working environment for all our employees
• maintain safe practices in ship operation
• provide high quality service to our customers and avoid damage to cargo
• eliminate risks and avoid damage to the environment

These objectives shall be achieved by:

• providing of the necessary resources and support
• a careful selection of personnel ashore and onboard ships
• a careful familiarization of new employees with our safety management system
• a clear allocation of responsibilities and authorities within our company
• continuous training and improvement of the safety management skills of personnel ashore and onboard ships
• a careful planning of key shipboard operations
• preparing for emergencies related both to safety and environmental protection
• assessing all identified risks to our ships, personnel and the environment and establishing appropriate safeguards
• analysing of non-conformities, accidents, improvement suggestions, customer complaints and hazardous (near miss) occurrences with the aim to prevent recurrence
• maintaining the ships and their equipment in conformity with the provisions of the relevant rules and regulations and our company requirements
• carrying out internal safety audits on board and ashore
• reviewing the safety management system with the aim to continuously improve it

The company's safety management system is detailed in the safety management manual and the related documentation. It shall ensure compliance with mandatory rules and regulations, and take into account all applicable codes, guidelines and standards recommended by the IMO (International Maritime Organization), Administrations, classification societies, OCIMF (Oil Companies International Marine Forum) and other maritime industry organizations.

This policy has been determined by the senior management of the company and the instructions of the safety management system are applicable to all levels within the company!

Our long-term goals and aspirations are:

• zero incident operations
• zero spill operations
• zero customer complaints

We aim to reach these goals through continuous improvement and strive to further develop the safety management system.

We, the senior management of the company, are committed to the vision of accident-free shipping operations. Each employee at sea and ashore is instructed to dedicate themselves to be a vital part of this commitment.
